Clean-up Day is a Success

Report – May 1, 2021 Clean Up Day
Major Sponsors
BLIA / BH-BL BPA
Total Registered Participants – 72 (it is believed that this number might be higher as parents joined the scout groups; but didn’t register and others joined in as they noticed volunteers – for example Larry Smith on Blue Barns said “a man came out of his house asked what I was doing and pitched right in.
Total Pre-registrants – 58 – this really work out well – we had bags marked with the preregistrants names, their shirts, trash bags, Stewart’s coupons, etc. ready for these volunteers once they checked in – Joanne had two scout leaders come to her home to pick up all the materials these groups would need – saved congestion at BLFD site.
Feedback – Most volunteers found litter was less than in previous years – Areas of concern because of heavy debris volume Outlet Rd, Parts of Lake Road, Kingsley/Blue Barns – the areas presenting the most trash was stretches of road side with no nearby residences.
Maps – we could use a better map next year. –
Two Drop Off Sites – this seemed to work well – the truck at BL Firehouse was well filled (Wes left his utility wagon on site for a few hours in case the CP truck was overflowing). The TOB truck at Outlet Road was well utilized. We might try to get a larger truck from Town of Clifton Park next year.
Refreshments – No one seemed to miss the donuts and coffee. The free coupons were popular – What should I do with left over Stewart’s coupons? They aren’t dated; but are numbered. Need to tie into something involving environmental issues. Wes got a cup of Joe at Stewarts for the BL FD Parking Lot Volunteers.
Organization at BLFD – Three tables – one for checking in – two for distribution – shirts, bags, gloves, etc.
Volunteers at Fire House – Chris Newell, Greg Adams (brought orange cones to mark no parking area in case of fire emergencies) and E\Z Up tents in case of wet weather, Wes DeVoe, Joanne DeVoe, Ron Lind, Bob Wilson, and Pete Herman.
Marketing PR – Spectrum news carried a “save the date”, Flier and news release sent to School district, BLIA and BPA sent Constant Contact message and posted on FB, posted on web site, “A” Frame signs at Villago, End of Eastside Drive, BLFD post on message board, banner at Carney’s, nice article in Local First insert in Times Union, Your Neighbor posted as a calendar item. Flier printed and posted at each end of bike path, library, Mail n More, Carney’s. CUD event will be a “High Notes” item on next Monday’s Editorial page in Gazette – Photo from Cub Pack 83 sent to Times Union.
