On two separate occasions during February 2016, two individuals fell through the ice on Ballston Lake and needed immediate life rescue. The gravity of the situation prompted onlookers to call 911 emergency personnel from the Ballston Lake Fire Department, Ballston Lake Rescue Squad, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, and the New York State Police. Through the combined efforts of Town of Ballston resident Donna Katz, Ballston Lake fireman Herb Jackson, Ballston Lake resident Charlie McCormick, Deputy Sheriff Laura Whitney and New York State Trooper Matthew Wilski the imperiled individuals were successfully rescued. They were then treated and subsequently transported by members of the Ballston Lake Rescue Squad to receive further medical treatment to ensure a complete recovery.
Thanks to their heroic efforts these individuals were successfully rescued. On Tuesday May 10th, 2016 these rescuers were recognized by the Ballston Town Council .
