With perfect weather, once again the citizens of our town turned out to participate in a very successful "Clean Up Day" effort. A big thank you to the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Business and Professional Association for their contributions and support. Niger Hale and Chris Newell are very nice to work with on this project. Rich Noel did an excellent job at the Firehouse. A very special THANK YOU to Wes and Joanne DeVoe for stepping in at the last moment to take charge of this event. They both do an excellent job with the publicity for this project and have for many years.
Joining our committee were David and Alice Rubin, Suzanne Bishop, Joel Prescott and Janet Green. The annual Clean Up Day attracted a goodly number of new volunteers including some area high school students who were fulfilling a community service requirement for a government class. One, student, surprised the committee by handing over a $20 “tip” upon returning to headquarters at the Ballston Lake Fire House. The student reported, “A lady spotted my bright yellow Clean Up Day shirt, came running out of her house and insisted I take the money”! Kudos to the donor and the student on this anonymous example of volunteerism, service, honesty and generosity.
The community again has been given great support by Joe Whalen and his crew at the Town of Ballston Highway Department. Lakeside Farm and Focastle Farm provide us with their wonderful donuts each year. We thank AJ Signs for correcting the date on the Banner which hung across the porch at Carney's. We also appreciate and thank the Ballston Lake Fire Department for allowing us to use the Fire House facilities.
And last, but not least, we THANK all of the volunteers who participated in cleaning up our local roadsides.
We look forward to seeing you again next year. Pete Herman
