October 2017 Newsletter: Water For Ballston Lake Residents

Everyone in our lake community needs access to safe, potable water. Municipal water also enhances fire protection. This issue has both public health and public safety aspects. As a first step, the BLIA Board would like to gather information about the quality of household water which is “piped in” from the lake (particularly during algae blooms), the quality of water drawn from private wells and the quantity of water from those private wells. A survey will be included with the dues renewal information which will be mailed in January, 2018. When returned they will provide good data which can be analyzed and shared with local officials. Just as BLIA’s years of testing the lake’s water quality helped build the “case” that eventually resulted in a successful Sewer District referendum in both the Towns of Clifton Park and Ballston, so could information gathered from this survey help advance a water district. We believe the time has come to begin to gather facts and share them at the local level- in both our lake towns. We need volunteers to form a Clean Water Committee to help us obtain and organize/analyze the information from the surveys.

survey- or to volunteer.
