October 2017 Newsletter: Water Safety Committee

October 22, 2017

When the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Marine Division launched their two jet skis on a beautiful Sunday afternoon this summer, the only thing faster than their personal watercraft was the speed at which the news of the sheriff being on the lake traveled.

A number of citations were written by the two officers that day, most of which were for not having the required vessel safety equipment on board. During the first BLIA Vessel Safety Check held in June, 22 boats were inspected by the Power Squadron with 19 passing. More importantly, those not passing were told what they needed for their boat to be legal on NYS waterways. With Saratoga County Sheriff Zurlo saying they will again be patrolling our lake in 2018, it makes sense to sign up early when the date of next year’s Safety Check is announced.
